Current Exhibitions
The museum rotates different exhibitions. Right now, there are some compelling works to see. “A New Landscape, A Possible Horizon” is one you should check out. It explores the biennial of Texas and runs through Dec. 5, 2021.
Through Feb. 27, 2022, you can learn more about the Mayan culture from the “Nature, Power, and Maya Royals.” This ancient culture had a significant influence in the area of what is now the southwestern U.S. For example, this exhibition has objects from the 250 AD to 900 AD Mayan era.
In addition, another must-see is the “40 Years, 40 Stories: Treasures and New Discoveries from SAMA’s Collection.” This exhibition showcases paintings, carvings, sculptures, and more from the museum’s own collection during its 40-year history. Among the works are those from six continents. The exhibition runs through Jan. 2.
Upcoming Exhibitions
The “Wendy Red Star: A Scratch on the Earth” exhibition will be coming to the museum on Feb. 11, 2022, and will be on display until May 8. Museum staff members are excited to show off these works from the Crow Native American tribe. The artist, Wendy Red Star, uses photography and mixed media to describe the Crow’s struggles in contemporary society. Plus, Red Star has 60 works as part of this exhibition.
Education
The San Antonio Museum of Art is an excellent place to learn more about the past through various forms and media. Furthermore, coming here is a good educational opportunity. Educators are welcome to explore the exhibitions and apply what they learn in their classrooms. Key Things to Know About the Museum
The museum is closed Monday but is open Tuesday through Sunday, beginning at 10 a.m. It closes at 5 p.m. on Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday and at 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Friday. Admission is $20 for adults, $17 for seniors, $12 for military and students, and $10 for youth ages 13 to 18. Kids 12 and under are free.
